Catalysts for Change, Formation, and Impact
Through Princeton Seminary’s centers and initiatives, theological education is contextual, collaborative, and grounded in wisdom and compassion.
In these spaces, our community is shaped by the exchange of ideas, the formation of vocation, and the shared pursuit of wisdom that unfolds wherever we gather.
By grounding scholarship in authentic contexts and lived experience, the voices and experiences of others, faith practices, and the nuances of diverse traditions, Princeton Seminary’s centers and initiatives animate this formation. Their work seeks to broaden perspectives, deepen understanding, and cultivate leaders prepared to serve with clarity and understanding in a complex and interconnected world.
Here, scholarship and practice come into conversation and new possibilities emerge. Students, scholars, and practitioners collaborate across disciplines and traditions to consider questions that matter for the Church, the academy, and the public square. They spark dialogue, inspire research, and create opportunities for learning that shape both the Seminary experience and the work our graduates carry into the world.
Whether you come to Princeton Seminary to study, to participate in an event, or to join a global network of partners, you will encounter a community animated by the life of our centers. This essential ecosystem of ideas and relationships will continue to shape your thinking and widen your reach.
Through Princeton Seminary’s Centers and Initiatives, you’ll find:
• Events and gatherings that speak to real-world challenges and theological questions
• Connection to practitioners and scholars who are shaping the church and public life
• Flexible, accessible formats designed for people with full schedules and active calling
• Opportunities to reflect, act, and grow academically, spiritually, and vocationally
Rooted in Scripture, Responsive to the World.
Whether focused on global perspective, cultural identity, spiritual formation, or emerging leadership needs, our centers and initiatives reflect Princeton Seminary’s commitment to thoughtful, responsive, and justice-minded ministry. Their offerings are designed to grow with you, encouraging ongoing exploration and deeper connection to the issues shaping both the church and the world.
Centers

Betsey Stockton Center for Black Church Studies
The Betsey Stockton Center for Black Church Studies exists to highlight the theological and religious witness, which arises out of the African American and African Diaspora Christian experience. The center helps to prepare men and women for vocational ministry or scholarly pursuits shaped by a wider knowledge and deeper appreciation of black life within American and global Christianity.

Center for Asian American Christianity
The Center for Asian American Christianity at Princeton Theological Seminary seeks to be a rich and lively program that bears witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ, enriched by the distinctiveness and diversity of the Asian and Asian-American contexts.

Center for Barth Studies
The Center for Barth Studies exists to provide leading resources on the theology and legacy of Swiss Reformed theologian Karl Barth (1886–1968). The center hosts programs and events, provides research resources, and facilitates constructive theological conversation for engagement with the Christian theological tradition and its public significance today.

Center for Contemplative Leadership
The Center for Contemplative Leadership was established in 2022 to support leaders inside and outside of the church through contemplative practices ancient and modern, by offering training and resources for cultivating vision, resilience, and joy. We believe in the robust integration of deep spiritual roots with the wider work of liberative justice in the world, and lovingly create communities of trust and active listening for the Spirit together.

Overseas Ministries Study Center
The mission of the Overseas Ministries Study Center (OMSC) is to amplify the voices of the world Christian movement by supporting and promoting scholars and artists from Asia, Africa, and Latin America and diaspora communities. Founded in Ventnor, New Jersey, in 1922 by Marguerite and Ida Doane, OMSC carries on its legacy of fellowship and mission practice while embracing a newfound commitment to ecumenism, scholarship, and educational equity. OMSC serves as a hub for World Christianity scholars worldwide through residential study programs, public lectures, research grants, online certificate programs, and the highest circulating peer-reviewed journal in the field, the “International Bulletin of Mission Research.”

The Center for Theology, Women, and Gender (CTWG)
The Center for Theology, Women, and Gender (CTWG) explores the intersections between theology, gender, race, class, (dis)ability, and sexuality studies. The Center grew out of the Seminary’s longstanding commitment to identify and redress inequalities at the Seminary, in the church, and in the world. Through lectures, workshops, and other events, the center highlights the pressing issues of inequality facing our contemporary world, particularly those intersecting with gender and sexuality studies, in order to encourage creative social change.
